Alexandra Place represents the revitalisation of a once-dilapidated building along the main road of Somerset-West, bringing new life, contemporary functionality, and architectural presence to an important urban corner. The project involved a full renovation of the existing residential apartments and the addition of a lightweight steel-clad second floor, creating a striking contrast between the modern upper level and the more traditional ground and first floors.
The development combines retail at ground level with upgraded residential units above, transforming the building into a vibrant mixed-use destination. The neighbouring heritage-protected property was also sensitively restored as part of the broader upgrade, returning it to its former character and strengthening the streetscape.
The new steel-clad addition sits confidently above the refurbished structure, its contemporary form and materiality intentionally juxtaposed with the original architecture. The result is a carefully balanced blend of old and new—preserving history while enabling modern living and commercial activity.
